Job Summary
As a Junior Bookkeeper within the Finance & Accounting division at .efficiently, you will be placed with a U.S. client to manage financial records, process transactions, and ensure compliance with financial regulations. You will be responsible for supporting the accounting team by performing essential bookkeeping duties such as recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports. Your role will involve working closely with finance professionals to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring timely reporting and compliance with accounting standards.
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of accounting principles, be highly organized, and possess excellent attention to detail. You should be able to work independently while collaborating effectively with the team. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and Xero is essential, along with the ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain exposure to U.S. accounting standards (GAAP) while enhancing their expertise in financial management and reporting.
This role is ideal for candidates with 3-5 years of experience, proficiency in U.S. bookkeeping standards (GAAP), and hands-on expertise in QuickBooks/Xero.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger (GL) Management
- Maintain accurate GL entries, ensuring proper classification of financial transactions.
- Post and reconcile journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
- Ensure intercompany transactions and reconciliations are properly recorded.
- Monitor and reconcile trial balances to identify discrepancies.
- Process vendor invoices, payments, and expense reimbursements.
- Prepare client invoices, verify billable expenses, and track collections.
- Reconcile AR aging reports, follow up on overdue invoices, and manage collections.
- Maintain vendor and client records, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations for all bank and credit card accounts.
- Identify discrepancies, investigate missing transactions, and process corrections.
- Work with banks on any transactional errors or chargebacks.
- Prepare and analyze monthly/quarterly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures, ensuring accurate cut-offs.
- Support budget vs. actual variance analysis.
- Generate reports for management review, auditors, and tax consultants.
- Support payroll processing, ensuring compliance with U.S. payroll regulations.
- Ensure payroll entries are posted correctly to GL (including wages, benefits, and taxes).
- Assist in filing sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory reports.
- Process Improvement & Automation
- Identify opportunities for automation in bookkeeping and accounting workflows.
- Work with the finance team to implement efficiency improvements in reconciliation and reporting.
- Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP standards and client-specific accounting policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
- 3-5 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, preferably with U.S. clients.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software: QuickBooks (Online/Desktop), Xero.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Financial Modeling).
- High attention to detail & accuracy in bookkeeping records.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
- Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
- Knowledge of regulations & compliance in U.S. accounting.
- Professional bookkeeping certification (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper) is a plus.
